Therapeutic Approach and Experience

Dr. Venkatesweran provides individual therapy to older adolescents and adults and has particular expertise in working with women’s health issues and Veterans. She takes an interpersonal approach to therapy informed by cultural awareness. Her philosophy is that the client is the expert of their own life, and she attempts to foster collaboration in such a way that the therapeutic relationship can be utilized to process emotions, deepen awareness, and practice new skills. Her goal is to make the therapeutic space and relationship one in which the client can be transparent, authentic, and feel deeply understood. She attempts to utilize the client’s input to set goals and provide appropriate treatment planning. 

She has over 10 years of clinical experience in various settings, including university counseling centers, hospitals, VA medical centers, schools, and community mental health agencies. Dr. Venkatesweran currently holds a clinical faculty position at Marquette University within the Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology Program and is passionate about teaching and training future counselors and psychologists.
