Presenting Concerns
When this young woman came to see me, she was experiencing severe generalized anxiety disorder, recently exacerbated by an unexpected pregnancy. Her anxiety was physically debilitating — she had a racing heart, dizziness, gastrointestinal issues, and sometimes felt like she might pass out. These symptoms frequently interfered with her work, and at the time we began therapy, she was on leave due to her condition.
She was concerned not only about her current symptoms but also about perinatal and postpartum mental health risks. Given her history and the physiological toll of anxiety, her fears were valid and needed a structured, supportive approach.
Treatment Approach
This case called for a holistic, non-medication-based treatment plan, combining CBT, lifestyle interventions, and nervous system regulation techniques. The work we did together helped her regain stability without the use of psychiatric medication.
1. CBT-Focused Thought Work
We started by identifying distorted thought patterns and anxiety triggers. Using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), I guided her through the process of recognizing and challenging negative automatic thoughts.

Reflections
This case is a powerful example of how non-medication treatment for anxiety can be incredibly effective when paired with education, lifestyle support, and individualized tools.
